AKIRA

TypefaceDesign

Akira is a calligraphic typeface I designed in 2011 with a strong hope for Japan. Just as the original Western serif typefaces were evocative of calligraphic penstrokes, each letter of Akira is built from distinctive brush strokes evocative of those used in Japanese calligraphy.

Akira is meant for use mainly in headlines and branding.

This typeface is named after my father, a Japanese calligrapher.
